Optical Mapping Workshop: August 7, 2015

A one-day workshop in the use of optical mapping will be held August 7, 2015, at UC Davis. It is part of the education/outreach component of the “Sequencing the Aegilops tauschii genome” grant (NSF-PGRP grant IOS-1238231).

The Irys™ platform from BioNano Genomics ( http://www.bionanogenomics.com/) makes possible the analysis of long DNA molecules to produce a genome map. The workshop will explore how these genome maps provide a means of independent assessment of genome sequence assembly, contribute to the construction of pseudomolecules of individual chromosomes, and are used for other genomic applications. The program for the workshop is below.

The registration fee is $250, and includes lunch and morning and afternoon break service. The course capacity is 30 participants. Scholarships are available for some registrations.

Audience: The course will be most useful for graduate students and postdocs involved with plant genome sequencing projects and it is this group for whom scholarships and travel support are intended.

The first 15 out-of-town scholarship recipients can receive a stipend of $200 per person to help defray lodging or travel costs.

Deadline for applying for a scholarship is July 24. Please email a statement of how the workshop will benefit your research, identifying your research project and the lab in which you are based, to Patrick McGuire <pemcguire@ucdavis.edu >.

Others who are interested in the course may register on a space-available basis. Final registration deadline is July 24.
