Allen Van Deynze: Public Plant Breeding Award

During the American Seed Trade Association’s CSS 2016 & Seed Expo in Chicago in December 2016, the National Council of Commercial Plant Breeders recognized Allen Van Deynze with the Public Plant Breeding Award.

Allen Van Deynze, research director for the UC Davis Seed Biotechnology Center, is the recipient of a national plant breeding award.

This award is given to a person who has made outstanding basic contributions to the advancement of plant breeding and genetics in the public sector, said Rice Tec’s Jose Rea, who presented the award, consisting of a $1,500 check and an engraved plaque.

Van Deynze serves as research director for the Seed Biotechnology Center at UC Davis, which is a founding member of the African Orphan Crops Consortium. He is responsible for developing, coordinating, and conducting research and generating and disseminating scientific and informational content for the center’s educational and outreach programs.
