Honoring our retirees: Robert Hutmacher

Robert Hutmacher retired in 2022 as professor of University of California Cooperative Extension, based in the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences. He is also the director of the UC West Side Research and Extension Center. His research has focused on cotton, primarily in California's San Joaquin Valley, but also in other cotton-producing states.

Dan Putnam is a professor of Cooperative Extension in the department whose work focuses on alfalfa and forage crops. He honored his friend and longtime colleague with "a long list" of accomplishments:

Hutmacher: A career of impact

Hutmacher is a UC Davis alum, earning his bachelor's degree in agronomy here in 1977. His career has taken him to far-flung rural areas, where he has worked extensively with farm advisors and researchers with universities and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Taylor welcomes guests and honorees at the 2023 Retirement Dinner

The department traditionally has held its retirement dinner every two years. But, the COVID-19 pandemic caused postponement of both the 2020 and the 2022 dinners, department Chair Gail Taylor explained. This event, held at the UC Davis Convention Center on April 28, 2023, honored several faculty members who had retired since 2018.
