The UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences is a leader in the research, teaching and delivery of all aspects of plant science, from lab to field, forest, rangeland and beyond. We are committed to our land-grant mission, established by the U.S. Congress in 1862, to provide quality higher education and address the needs of society. We address our world’s agricultural, ecological and environmental needs through cutting-edge science, dynamic undergraduate and graduate education and exemplary outreach.
At the UC Davis Department of Plant Sciences, our students and faculty strive to create healthy, prosperous lives for us all. We work to improve plants for food, fiber, and fuel, unleash the power of plants, protect healthy ecosystems, wage war on weeds, enhance life in the city, and support sustainable agriculture and energy.
Looking toward the future, we now have an expanded vision of what our department can hope to become. We want to improve our ability to attract the highest quality people to our institution, as faculty members, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students and thus achieve even higher levels of scientific productivity and leadership. We want to bring our instruction to a higher level of excellence. We want to make our physical environment conducive to sharing ideas and facilitating discoveries. We aspire to remain one of the top Plant Sciences departments in the world.
